Ohio State safety Marcus Hooker has entered his name into the transfer portal, according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports.

Hooker’s older brother, Malik Hooker, currently plays for the Dallas Cowboys after the Indianapolis Colts made the former Buckeyes star a first-round pick in 2017. The younger sibling recorded 33 tackles in 15 career games (four last season) with Ohio State.

As noted by Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors, Hooker played just 39 defensive snaps for the Buckeyes last year after posting a pick, a fumble recovery, and 15 tackles in 2020.

Though he was carving out a bigger role, Hooker was suspended before the 2021 season — and reinstated in the summer — after he pled guilty to operating a vehicle while impaired. It marked the second time he was arrested and subsequently suspended by the football program.

When he first committed to Ohio State, 247Sports ranked Hooker as the No. 60 cornerback from the class of 2018. The former three-star recruit from New Castle High School in Pennsylvania will look to play his senior season elsewhere.

He’s not the first safety to leave Ohio State this offseason. Andre Turrentine entered the transfer portal Monday, and Bryan Shaw recently committed to USC.
