Ohio State freshman quarterback Julian Sayin has been impressive throughout spring practice.
He’s been making some great throws and it led to him losing his “black stripe” nine practices in. Freshmen and walk-ons have to earn the right to have their black stripes removed so that they can officially be Buckeyes.
“They know, they see it,” Day said about how Sayin has looked so far.
Day also confirmed that Sayin is in the mix to be the starting quarterback for this season. He’ll likely get a good look during the Buckeyes’ spring game on Apr. 13.
If he performs well, he could have the edge heading into summer and fall practices.
Sayin joined Ohio State after initially enrolling at Alabama. He’s the No. 3 quarterback from the 2024 class, per 247Sports composite rankings. He was also the No. 20 overall recruit in the nation, regardless of position.
The Buckeyes finished the 2023 season with an 11-2 record following back-to-back losses to the Michigan Wolverines and Missouri Tigers.
They’ll be looking to bounce back in 2024 since they have an experienced roster coming back for one more year.
