For all of the talent on the offensive side of the ball at Ohio State, Ryan Day couldn’t be more excited to see what his Buckeyes are able to do defensively in 2024.
Speaking on 97.1 “The FAN” over the weekend, the head coach highlighted the potential he feels his defense has going into the upcoming season.
“The first thing is you gotta get the right people in the right seats and I think we’ve done that,” Day explained. “And it started off [with] Cody Simon coming back, and then Jack [Sawyer], and then Tyleik [Williams], and JT [Tuimoloau], and Denzel [Burke], and Lathan [Ransom], and then you add Caleb [Downs] in there.”
“So there’s a lot of excitement around the defensive side of the ball. We’re going to have to play with depth, it’s gonna be a long season. But to me, it’s all about the mindset,” the coach continued.
“The talent is there and individually that’s where you try to get better during the spring. How do you get better a player technically, fundamentally, and as we head into the summer now it’s the chemistry,” he said. “Now it’s the group coming together as a defense and building that identity.”
Ohio State’s entire roster is as star-studded as it gets and many believe they could be one of the best teams of the College Football Playoff era. We’ll find out soon enough when they kickoff the season against Akron Aug. 31.
