On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio State Buckeyes entered their contest against No. 12 Oregon as a heavy favorite.
The Ducks struggled against Fresno State before escaping with a 31-24 win in the first week of the season. Meanwhile, Ohio State received a fright from Minnesota before thee Buckeyes eventually pulled away.
Both of those outcomes played a part in Ohio State entering today’s game as a 14.5-point favorite. However, Oregon is showing that the first week of the season doesn’t define a team.
The Ducks dominated the first half of play and took a 14-7 lead into the locker room. Rather than sitting back and playing it safe, the Oregon offense struck early in the second half with a 77-yard touchdown run from tailback C.J. Verdell.
It was his third touchdown of the afternoon and gave Oregon a 21-7 lead over Ohio State in its own building.

Ohio State has struggled to run the ball on offense against a nasty Oregon defensive line. While the Ducks were pushed by Fresno State last week, Mario Cristobal’s team is playing like a completely different team.
Thankfully for Ohio State, the Buckeyes can strike just as fast. Shortly after the Verdell touchdown, quarterback C.J. Stroud found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 26-yard touchdown.
Oregon currently holds a 21-14 lead over the Ohio State Buckeyes with over 10 minutes left to play in the second half.
