Ohio State landed a commitment from Kansas State transfer Will Howard this week. It’s a move that has already received Urban Meyer’s stamp of approval.

On the latest edition of “Urban’s Take with Tim May,” the former head coach of the Buckeyes raved about Howard.

“Yeah I love Will Howard,” Meyer said, via On3. “I’ve watched him closely. The No. 1 thing is he’s a winner and he’s tough. And those are two things you want. I think of winner, tough, I think of — guys like JT Barrett come to mind. Is he going to be the No. 1 pick, No. 2 pick? Probably not, in the NFL draft, but he wins and he’s tough. And that’s what think of Will Howard.”

That’s high praise from Meyer, especially since J.T. Barrett had so much success at Ohio State.

Howard told ESPN that he was intrigued by Ryan Day’s system at Ohio State. The dual-threat quarterback wants to continue playing in a pro-style offense.

“Talking to Coach Day about the scheme, I got excited,” Howard explained. “Kansas State is very pro-style and gets you ready for the pros better than most programs in the country. I didn’t want to lose any of that momentum. When Coach Day and I met and went through the scheme, I’m a total football nerd and talk ball all day. We hit it off in that way. I knew that was the system that would get me the most prepared for that level.”

Howard had 2,643 passing yards, 351 rushing yards and 33 total touchdowns during the 2023 season.

We’ll find out in the fall if Howard can lead Ohio State back to the promised land.
