Urban Meyer Doesn’t Hesitate Naming Toughest Place To Play In Country

October 31, 2024 by The Spun

Most Obscure Mascots In College Football (1:07)

There are a lot of very tough places to play in college football each season.

Beaver Stadium (Penn State), Neyland Stadium (Tennessee), Lane Stadium (Virginia Tech), Ohio Stadium (Ohio State), Bryant-Denny Stadium (Alabama), Tiger Stadium (LSU), Memorial Stadium (Clemson), and Kyle Field (Texas A&M) are all places that come to mind that are hard for opposing teams to win in.

Former Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has coached in some of those stadiums and thinks Beaver Stadium is the toughest place to play in the country.

“I actually tell people that I used to have LSU as the hardest place to play but I think Penn State is the most difficult place to play with the student section…110,000 people, I’m sure the players appreciate that stadium and those students,” Meyer said on his “The Triple Option” podcast.

Meyer would know since he had to coach against Penn State in Beaver Stadium while he was with Ohio State and it got rowdy during those games. He had success at the stadium (a 3-1 record) but they were always very tough games.

Beaver Stadium will be rocking again on Saturday when the two teams square off at Noon ET. It’s a big game since both teams are in the top five of the AP Top 25 poll and are squarely in the running for a Big Ten title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State comes into the contest with a 6-1 record while Penn State is a perfect 7-0. FOX will have national coverage of the game.
