In a coaching career spanning over 30 years, Urban Meyer recruited some of the best quarterbacks in college football history such as Tim Tebow, Cam Newton and Joe Burrow. But one quarterback stood out as the best.
In a recent interview with The Columbus Dispatch, Meyer had the highest of praise for Dwayne Haskins, who tragically lost his life on Saturday. Meyer called Haskins “the most talented quarterback I’ve ever seen” as a recruit.
““I remember my comment when I watched him throw: That was the most talented quarterback I’ve ever seen at that age,” Meyer said.
Meyer almost missed his chance to coach Haskins at all during his Ohio State days. Haskins originally committed to Maryland before flipping his commitment to Ohio State early in 2016.
The rest is history.
Meyer paid tribute to Haskins yesterday afternoon with this beautiful tweet:
Heartbroken to hear of the loss of Dwayne Haskins Jr. My thoughts and prayers go out to his incredible family. One of the greatest QB’s in Ohio State history, but an even better son, teammate, and friend. God Bless!! pic.twitter.com/lM9Z8LzMhe

Dwayne Haskins redshirted his freshman season and played sparingly as a sophomore. But when he was named the starter in 2018, he turned Ohio State into an offensive juggernaut.
Haskins set numerous Ohio State passing records in 2018, throwing for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns that year – both school records. He holds five of Ohio State’s top 10 passing yardage records and five of the school’s top seven total offensive yard games.
His 54 total touchdowns and 4,939 total offensive yards are also school records.
While Haskins may not have achieved what some of Meyer’s other pupils did, his career deserves no less acclaim.
