Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes finally got their quarterback through the transfer portal in Will Howard.
Howard is coming off his best season at Kansas State. He completed 61.3 percent of his pass attempts for 2,643 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Pennsylvania native also had 351 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
In an interview with ESPN on Thursday, Howard talked about his decision to join Ohio State. Unsurprisingly, he wants to compete for a national championship.
“When I started talking to Ohio State, everything kind of lined up,” Howard said. “I had a list of things I was looking for, in terms of needing to go somewhere where there was a lot of talent around me and somewhere I could compete for a national championship.”

Not only does Howard believe Ohio State will provide him the chance to win a national title, he’ll get to remain in a pro-style offense.
“Talking to Coach Day about the scheme, I got excited,” Howard explained. “Kansas State is very pro-style and gets you ready for the pros better than most programs in the country. I didn’t want to lose any of that momentum. When Coach Day and I met and went through the scheme, I’m a total football nerd and talk ball all day. We hit it off in that way. I knew that was the system that would get me the most prepared for that level.”
Howard helped Kansas State win a Big 12 title in 2022. We’ll see if he can lead Ohio State to a conference championship – and more – in 2024.
