Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports that the Cleveland Guardians have placed Carlos Carrasco on the 15-day injured list with neck spasms. The veteran right-hander was scheduled to start Tuesday night against the New York Mets. Instead of having the Mets since the club decided not to re-sign him, he will be sidelined for the next few weeks. Carrasco was pitching well in his last three starts, posting a 3.00 ERA with 11 strikeouts and three walks in 18 innings. Xzavion Curry is being called up from Triple-A Columbus to start Tuesday.

Carlos Carrasco is Out with Neck Spasms
Carrasco joins Shane Bieber (Tommy John surgery) and Gavin Williams (elbow inflammation) as Guardians starters out with injuries. Williams has not pitched this year after his impressive 16-start campaign in 2023. Carrasco has spent more than a decade with the Guardians, pitching to a 3.77 ERA and 3.42 FIP across 1,242 1/3 innings of work. He did face struggles with injuries and ineffectiveness early in his tenure, but Carrasco grew into a quality mid-rotation arm. He even earned votes for the American League Cy Young Award in both 2015 and 2017.
In a strong 2020 season, he pitched to a 2.91 ERA across 12 starts. The 37-year-old was included alongside Francisco Lindor in the blockbuster deal that saw Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Josh Wolf and Isaiah Greene go to Cleveland.
Carrasco’s Return to the Guardians
Carrasco returned to the Guardians after three seasons with the Mets. Over nine starts this season, he has a 2-4 record with a 5.16 ERA and a 1.89 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His last start came on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers where he allowed two runs on five hits in five innings. As for Curry, 25, has made 44 big league appearances since 2022, including 12 starts. In 109 innings, he has a 4.03 ERA and a 1.97 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Curry has made one start for Cleveland after missing the start of the season with a viral infection. His lone start came on April 15 against the Boston Red Sox. He did not factor in the decisions after three strikeouts, one walk and two hits in five innings. After that start, Curry went back to Triple-A where he appeared in seven games. He posted an 0-5 record with an 8.79 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28 2/3 innings. His last outing against Louisville was 3 1/3 innings where he surrendered five runs including a pair of home runs.
