One bad inning was all it took for Columbus to take the loss on Sunday.
Starting pitcher Parker Messick had been cruising through five scoreless frames before he couldn’t get out of the sixth inning. His final line was three runs allowed on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in 5.1 innings. Reliever Andrew Misiaszek allowed an inherited runner to score plus two more.
Offensively, a rehabbing Gabriel Arias went 1-for-3. Petey Halpin went 2-for-4 and veteran catcher Jake Anchia went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to account for all of Columbus’ offense.
Tim Herrin added a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts.
Akron RubberDucks 9, Altoona Curve 2

Akron didn’t have many big hits, but they had a lot of them, reaching base 14 times. Jorge Burgos led the way, going 3-for-4 with a walk. Conner Barstad went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Angel Genao and Joe Lampe both singled and walked as well.
Starting pitcher Rorik Maltrud had a brief day, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 2.1 innings, but the bullpen locked things down the rest of the way.
Davis Sharpe pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts while Tyler Thornton added two scoreless innings. Shawn Rapp and Adam Tulloch both added a scoreless inning apiece to close out the victory.

Jose Devers went 3-for-5 with a double to lead Lake County’s offense. Alfonsin Rosario did Alfonsin Rosario things, blasting his 15th home run of the season.

Jaison Chourio also had a big day, reaching base safely three times by going 1-for-3 with two walks. Kevin Rivas went 2-for-3 with a triple and a hit by pitch. Ralphy Velazquez also reached base safely twice, going 1-for-4 with a walk.
Cam Favors allowed a pair of runs in 3.2 innings, striking out three, walking four and giving up three hits. Dwayne Matos gave up three runs on three hits. Robert Wegelnik closed out the win with two scoreless innings and an impressive five strikeouts.

In game one, Ryan Cesarini reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a walk while Yerlin Luis and Bennett Thompson both doubled.
Starting pitcher Braylon Doughty gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks to take the tough-luck loss.
The offense was harder to come by in game two as no Hillcats players had an extra-base hit or reached base safely twice.
Starting pitcher Jervis Alfaro pitched 3.0 scoreless innings. Luis Flores added a scoreless frame. Reliever Julio Zapata gave up a run to give up a 1-0 lead while Conner Whittaker took the loss with a run given up in the sixth inning.
