Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Sunday, July 13, 2025
The Futures Game took place Saturday and Parker Messick was the starting pitcher for the American League team. Messick pitched a scoreless first inning with one strikeout, giving up one hit and a walk as well.
C.J. Kayfus also represented Cleveland in the Futures Game, going 0-for-2 with a walk in his three plate appearances.
Columbus Clippers 3, Louisville Bats 2
Box Score · Clippers improve to 43-46
The Clippers got some great pitching and just enough offense to earn their third straight victory on Saturday. Petey Halpin led the way on offense, going 3-for-4. Yordys Valdes also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.
Christian Cairo and Johnkensy Noel also doubled.
Starting pitcher Austin Peterson was sensational, allowing one run on just two hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 6.2 innings. He’s starting to settle in at Triple-A after a shaky first few starts following his promotion a month ago.

Tim Herrin gave up a solo home run, but earned his first save with the Clippers.
Akron RubberDucks 3, Richmond Flying Squirrels 5
Box Score · RubberDucks fall to 51-34
Akron got a strong performance from Cooper Ingle, but that was about it. Ingle went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks while Guy Lipscomb went 2-for-5 and Angel Genao and Jonah Advincula both singled and walked.
The RubberDucks had a bullpen game, but only Ross Carver had a scoreless appearance out of everyone who pitched. Carver had 2.0 scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts. Normally reliable Jake Miller took the loss after allowing three runs in his 2.1 innings of work.
Lake County Captains 8, West Michigan Whitecaps 5
Box Score · Captains improve to 44-42
Jose Devers had himself a day, going 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and five runs batted in for Lake County.
Jaison Chourio also had a strong performance, going 3-for-5 while both Luis Rivas and Juan Benjamin had two-hit games with Benjamin doubling. Every player in the Lake County lineup had at least one hit.
Starting pitcher Josh Hartle was terrific, tossing 5.0 shutout innings with eight strikeouts while walking three and giving up three hits.
Josh Harlow struggled in relief, making the game interesting by giving up four runs, but Jack Jasiak locked things down with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts to earn his eighth save.
Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Hickory Crawdads 4
Box Score · Hillcats fall to 49-37
Jeffrey Mercedes and Jose Pirela accounted for almost all of Lynchburg’s offense. Mercedes went 2-for-4 with a double while Pirela went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a stolen base.
Starting pitcher Cam Walty allowed one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts in 3.0 innings. Jose Alfaro allowed two more runs in 5.0 innings in his piggy-back role. Neither hurler pitched poorly, but just one run allowed was all it took to take the loss in this one.
A rehabbing George Valera went 2-for-3 with his fourth home run at the ACL already this season.
Also impressing was top shortstop prospect Gabriel Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with a double. A rehabbing Travis Bazanna went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base. Hopefully he can be reactivated soon.
Starting pitcher Keegan Zinn, a prep prospect, allowed one run in 3.0 innings of work.
It was Guardians on Guardians violence in the DSL Saturday. Santiago Ustariz went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double for the Goryl squad. Freilyn Rodriguez walked three times and scored a pair of runs.
Mendoza starting pitcher Alejandro Rivera impressed with 4.0 shutout innings. He has a .75 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through six starts and 24 innings pitched as an 18-year-old out of Venezuela. Not bad.
