Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Wednesday, June 24, 2025
Columbus Clippers 12, Iowa Cubs 0
Box Score · Clippers improve to 35-38
The only thing that sucked about this game is knowing that Chase DeLauter could have given this performance in Cleveland playing right field on Tuesday instead of obliterating some random Triple-A pitcher.
DeLauter reached base safely four times, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks. He has been scorching hot over the past two weeks. Cleveland should call him up yesterday.
Speaking of hot, C.J. Kayfus only had one hit on Tuesday, but it was a massive on, blasting a grand slam to remove all doubt in the ninth inning of a 12-0 blowout.
Milan Tolentino also had a great game, going 2-for-4 with his 12th home run and a stolen base (his 13th). He’s been heating up recently as well and is still just 23 years old, so his performance is definitely worth tracking. Will Wilson went 2-for-5 with a double and Jhonkensy Noel reached base safely three times, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks.
Starting pitcher Parker Messick was outstanding, pitching 6.0 shutout innings on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Nick Mikolajchak, Zak Kent and Matt Krook slammed the door with 3.0 combined innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts.
Akron RubberDucks 2, Harrisburg Senators 3
Box Score · RubberDucks sink to 43-26
A ninth inning rally fell one run short for Akron on Tuesday. The RubberDucks didn’t get much offense, getting outhit 12-2. Dayan Frias went 1-for-3 with a walk while Cooper Ingle walked twice and Jorge Burgos doubled. That was all of the offense. Not a great sign after the team was no-hit on Sunday.
Starting pitcher Trenton Denholm stranded a small village on the basepaths, allowing three runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 5.0innings. The bullpen locked things down as Davis Sharpe and a rehabbing Paul Sewald and Trevor Stephan combined for 4.0 innings of shutout relief. Stephan was particularly impressive, pitching two innings with a pair of strikeouts and no walks.
Lake County Captains 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 3
Box Score · Captains fall to 37-33
Just like Akron, Lake County had a late rally fall one run shy in a 3-2 loss. Jose Devers went 2-for-4 while Maick Collado went 2-for-3 and Ralphy Velazquez blasted his 10th home run of the season.
Starting pitcher Cam Favors was solid, striking out seven and walking two while allowing two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings. Reliever Robert Wegielnik allowed one run in 2.0 innings while Kyle Scott gave the Captains a chance to come back with 2.0 scoreless frames.
Lynchburg Hillcats 6, Charleston RiverDogs 4
Box Score · Hillcats improve to 44-26
Ryan Cesarini flashed his wheels, going 2-for-3 with a walk and his 24th stolen base. Bennett Thompson went 2-for-4 with a double while Nick Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a walk. Jose Pirela tripled and walked.
Starting pitcher Meikel Hernandez struggled, allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in just 3.2 innings.
The rest of the pitching was sensational, however. Conner Whittaker tossed 2.1 scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts. Sean Heppner followed with a scoreless seventh inning and Luis Flores earned the win with 2.0 scoreless innings and three strikeouts to close out the victory.
DSL Cle Goryl 9, DSL Rojos (Reds) 0 (F/7)
Catcher Wuinder Torres went 3-for-4 with two doubles while Tavares was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple and double. Ricardo Romero went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk as well.
Starting pitcher Edelvis Perez had 4.0 shutout innings. Jhordari Jimenez closed out the win with 2.0 scoreless frames.
DSL Cle Mendoza 3, DSL Red Sox Red 6 (F/7)
Luis Galan and Carlos Garces were the only Cle Mendoza players to reach base safely twice. Galan went 2-for-3 while Garces went 1-for-2 with a hit by pitch.
