Columbus Clippers 6, Toledo Mud Hens 1
Box Score · Clippers improve to 23-32
The Clippers brought the bats and the arms to finally put an end to their losing streak on Tuesday.
Johnathan Rodriguez led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and a walk. He wasn’t the only one to homer, however. C.J. Kayfus blasted off, as did Brayan Rocchio. Petey Halpin also went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Vince Velazquez was sensational from the mound, tossing 5.2 shutout innings with eight strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
Will Dion and Franco Aleman locked things down the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
Akron RubberDucks 6, Chesapeake Baysox
Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 35-17
This was the Cooper Ingle game. The star catching prospect single-handedly led the way for Akron in this one, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He now has a .919 OPS on the season.
Guy Lipscomb also had an impressive game, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk while Kahlil Watson went 2-for-4. Jorge Burgos walked three times and Joe Lampe homered and walked.
Starting pitcher Tommy Mace was effective, allowing two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings with one walk and a strikeout. Davis Sharpe and Magnus Ellerts closed out the victory with 3.0 innings of scoreless relief to collect a hold and a save, respectively.
Lake County Captains 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 9
Box Score · Captains fall to 25-27
Lake County’s monkey remains on its back, dropping its sixth straight game on Tuesday.
Maick Collado homered and walked while Estabon Gonzalez homered as the team’s only sources of offense.
Starting pitcher Matt WIlkinson failed to get out of the first inning. Tugboat’s struggles this season continue as he now sports a 5.36 ERA. This game got so bad that position player Kevin Rivas had to finish it.
Lynchburg Hillcats 3, Salem Red Sox 8
Box Score · Hillcats fall to 31-21
Tommy Hawke went 2-for-4 with a double and stole his 48th base, while Welbyn Francisca doubled, but that was pretty much the extent of Lynchburg’s offense.
Braylon Doughty pitched decently, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in 5.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout.
