It was shaping up to be a very disappointing loss for the Guardians today. Gavin Williams had a bit of a rollercoaster outing, throwing just 4 innings, giving up two runs with 9 strikeouts and 5 walks. The offense was not getting anything going for most of the game, until Daniel Schneemann hit a solo HR in the top of the 8th. The only other Guardian to get a hit today was Steven Kwan, who went 2-4.
The Blue Jays brought in their closer Yimi Garcia in the top of the 9th, who has pitched very well this season. Then we had two walks and a hit from Steven Kwan which loaded the bases for Daniel Schneemann. He then had the best swing of his career, an absolute missile that left the bat at 111.2 mph to put the Guardians up 5-3. After that we got what feels like the first clean inning that Emmanuel Clase has had since before the playoffs last year.
Today was a huge day for Daniel Schneemann both in the short and the long term, in my opinion. I think this should solidify his roster spot for the foreseeable future, and I would much rather see him in the lineup than Brayan Rocchio. He should be in the lineup everyday against RHP moving forward, whether that be at 2B or CF.
The Guardians will try and win the series against the Blue Jays tomorrow at 1:37 pm et. It will be Tanner Bibee vs Bowden Francis.
