Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Friday, June 27, 2025
Columbus Clippers 6, Iowa Cubs 5
Box Score · Clippers improve to 37-38
Don’t look now, but Columbus is on fire and nearly back to .500. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the Clippers have two position players that should be at MLB right now or anything.
Speaking of, C.J. Kayfus went 1-for-4 with a walk to reach base safely twice. Jhonkensy Noel went 3-for-5 with two doubles while Will Wilson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.
Petey Halpin, Kody Huff and Brayan Rocchio also doubled while Christian Cairo went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base and Milan Tolentino blasted his 13th home run.
Starting pitcher Vince Velasquez was outstanding, striking out six and walking two while allowing one run on six hits in 6.0 innings. Will Dion added a scoreless inning but Franco Aleman’s recent struggled continued as he gave up three runs in his inning of work. Bradley Hanner earned his first save, giving up one run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Akron RubberDucks 5, Harrisburg Senators 4 (F/7)
Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 45-26
Angel Genao was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly. Cooper Ingle opened the game with a hit, but was replaced after an injury. Hopefully it’s not serious. We’ve had enough injuries with top prospects this season.
Other standouts included Jorge Burgos, who went 2-for-3 and Alex Mooney, who blasted his first home run of the season.
Starting pitcher Tommy Mace allowed four runs on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings, but it was enough to earn the win thanks to a strong offense. Magnus Ellerts and Zach Jacobs followed with a pair of scoreless innings of relief to lock down the win.
Lake County Captains 10, West Michigan Whitecaps 6
Box Score · Captains improve to 38-34
Rake County is back! The Clippers blasted off for 10 runs on 12 hits with seven walks on Thursday. Leading the way was Christian Knapczyk, who went 3-for-5 with a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Alfonsin Rosario also had a great game, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. He has nothing left to prove at High-A. Wuilfredo Antunez went 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases while Ralphy Velazquez went 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.
Juan Benjamin went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base and Jacob Cozart went 1-for-3 with two walks.
Starting pitcher Michael Kennedy returned from injury and was knocked around for two runs on five hits in 2.0 innings, although he struck out three and didn’t walk anyone.
In long relief, Yorman Gomez gave up four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk in 4.2 innings to earn the win.
Lynchburg Hillcats 3, Charleston RiverDogs 2
Box Score · Hillcats improve to 44-26
Welbyn Francisca continues his offensive resurgence. The top shortstop prospect has been scorching for a month now. He went 2-for-4 with a stolen base on Thursday, scoring a run and collecting an RBI.
Ryan Cesarini went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases. Robert Lopez also went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Starting pitcher Braylon Doughty struck out a career-high eight batters and walked two. He allowed two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.
The bullpen was outstanding as Xavier Martinez struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings and Logan McGuire struck out four in 2.0 scoreless frames to earn his sixth save.
ACL Guardians 6, ACL Brewers 7
Juneiker Caceres stayed hot, going 2-for-5 with a double while Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Luis De La Crus went 1-for-4 with a walk.
DSL Cle Goryl 9, DSL Orioles Black 2
Osmar Torrealba went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk and Randy Martinez went 3-for-5 with a double. Both have an OPS over 1.000 on the season. Ricardo Romero went 2-for-5 and Freilyn Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a double.
We don’t normally talk about pitching in the DSL, but 16-year-old starting pitcher Daniel Gentile tossed 5.0 shutout innings with four strikeouts and no walks, only allowing two hits. I’m going to keep my eye on this young man.
DSL Cle Mendoza 11, DSL Brewers Blue 13
Luis Garcia went 3-for-6 with a triple and two doubles. Daniel Arias went 3-for-5 with a double and he also stole home. Marcos Belen went 1-for-3 with two walks.
