Guardians Star Reliever Eyeing Rookie of the Year

Smith Has Been the Anchor to the Guardians’ Successful Bullpen

Smith is having a hell of a season with a 2.14 ERA, 76 strikeouts, and a 0.93 WHIP across 54.2 innings of relief work. In addition, 83 percent of the fastballs he has thrown have been at a speed of over 95 mph. Cleveland’s bullpen has been so strong and ranked first because of how successful Smith has been. In addition, Smith will be a key piece in the bullpen that will help guide the Guardians through a difficult stretch that remains in the regular season. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut this season and has a 6-1 record. In Smith’s debut this season, he recorded five strikeouts. His debut will be a memorable moment that he won’t forget in his baseball career as he progresses and excels. Smith also owns the best fWAR and FIP among Guardian pitchers in the second half of this season. This continues to make his case stronger for Rookie of the Year.

Compared with Oakland Athletics sensation Mason Miller, he has recorded a 2.16 ERA, 70 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 0.82 across 41.2 innings pitched. Miller is also 25 years old and has a record of 1-1 this season. While their stats are quite similar, the upper hand goes to Smith, who has pitched more innings and has recorded more strikeouts. However, Miller also has more experience in the Majors and made his MLB debut in 2023. In addition, Miller was an All-Star this season. It’s a tough call, but the Guardians are first in the AL Central with a record of 67-47. Meanwhile, the A’s are in last place in the AL West with a record of 48-68.
