News and Notes for Sunday, May 4th, 2025
The Guardians pulled out a come-from-behind win against a good Blue Jays bullpen yesterday thanks to the heroics of Daniel Schneemann:
Plus, some good at-bats from Steven Kwan, Carlos Santana, Kyle Manzardo (who struck out but made Garcia work extremely hard), and Bo Naylor. Zach has your recap here. Ethan Diamandas has some postgame comments and a recap for MLB here.
Daniel Schneemann average/max exit velocity in MLB before today: 88.5/108.3 MPH
Daniel Schneemann today:

With Daniel Schneemann and Kyle Stowers,
this is the first day in MLB history where multiple players had multi-HR games, each including a go-ahead grand slam in the 9th or laterh/t @EliasSports

It struck me after I wrote my mea culpa last night concluding that Schneemann is most likely a player who has a legitimate place on a major league roster that my doubt may be part of the zen fueling his run. And, while I’m not superstitious, I am a little stitious so I’m continuing to doubt. This will never last! Surely he won’t hit four batted balls over 98 mph today!! Surely!
You’re welcome, everyone.
Today, Tanner Bibee will look to build on his excellent last start and close out the series in Toronto with another win at 1:37PM EDT.
Today is May the Fourth be with you, so happy Star Wars day to those of you who celebrate. Trying to work my way through a show log to get to the newest season of Andor, but I’m a Star Wars appreciator, especially the original trilogy, the first two of the sequel trilogy, Solo and Rogue One. The prequels are supremely “meh” and The Rise of Skywalker can absolutely kick rocks, though. Worst thing to happen to a movie franchise in movie franchise history. Hopefully, the next film will be restart we all need.
AROUND MLB:
The Angels finally managed to beat the Tigers, but the Royals beat the hapless Orioles and the Twins beat the Red Sox.
