News and Notes for Saturday, July 12th, 2025
There is an alternate universe where the Guardians losing the second-half of a doubleheader against the White Sox last night isn’t a big deal. But, that’s not the world we live in.
Nick has your recap here. The bad version of Gavin Williams showing up was unpleasant. Paul Sewald walking a rare batter was unpleasant. Will Wilson trying to swing a bat is unpleasant (and infuriating). Kyle Manzardo failing to handle a rushed throw from Daniel Schneemann and grounding into a crucial double-play in the 11th was unpleasant. Guardians pitchers somehow walking 9 batters unintentionally from the worst hitting team in the AL was unpleasant and embarrassing.
The only bright side is that Tom Hamilton was saying that Stephen Vogt was going to allow Emmanuel Clase to try to for two saves in one day. Frankly, that is irresponsible and stupid and I am kinda glad the White Sox tied the game so we could avoid it.
Hopefully, they turn it around and win the final two games before the break. But, we need to stop talking about the Guardians sneaking into the third wildcard. Teams that lose 10 in a row and then lose this type of game as they try to climb out of that hole do not win World Series titles. Put that in the freezing cold take file if you want.
Chase DeLauter’s on-base streak reached 35 in Columbus with a 400 ft double. He needs to be in Cleveland, even if he is breaking our hearts being slow to develop like Manzardo. This season needs to be about developing this young hitting core and making sure Jose Ramirez is supported on his way to a 6-win season.

FanGraphs should release their first mock today and then a last one tomorrow. Check out commenter DelGua’s latest mock draft, as he always does a good job.
