morning N&N for April 30
The Guardians entered Tuesday’s name needing both a win and innings from Tanner Bibee. What they got was clouds. Then rain. Then those other two things.
Scheduled to begin at 6:10, the teams stood around expecting The Wettest From The Standpoint Of Water, but getting no raindrops until 7:53.
They eventually started at 9-something, took a 1-0 lead, gave that run back, and after Bibee’s 7 innings were stuck in a 1-1 tie.
Things stayed tied because of the arms of Gabby Arias and Steve Kwan until the 9th inning. The replay umps tried to ruin this by calling an out batter safe, but I do want to shout out the home plate ump for what might have been the first good strike zone we’ve seen in a Guardians game this season.
in that 9th inning, Emilio Impersonator Louie Varland threw Kyle Manzardo a meatball and the ballpark couldn’t hold it. Ballgame.
Before the game, Paul Sewald made his way to the IL, which meant Joey Cantillo could be quickly recalled. Cody Bolton was also sent down for Placeholder Arm Vince Velasquez.
Around baseball
- The Weather (no, longtime readers, not Mike Aviles) also delayed Clayton kershaw’s rehab.
- Sandy Alcantara had a hard time against his team’s payroll opposite, and Miami lost 15-2 in LA.
