Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Thursday, May 15, 2025
Columbus Clippers 3, Omaha Storm Chasers 8
Box Score · Clippers fall to 16-22
There isn’t much to say about the Clippers this time around the horn. They had a hard time trying to capitalize with RISP, going 1-9. Lane Thomas remains hitless in his rehab stint, which isn’t great to see.

Brayan Rocchio had a hit and two steals, but also got caught stealing once. Both Milan Tolentino and Dom Nunez hit a bomb, and CJ Kayfus went 2-3 with a walk and a stolen bag of his own.
Pretty much every Clipper pitcher got touched up Wednesday. Doug Nikhazy gave up 4 earned, while 2 were charged to Franco Aleman and Andrew Misiaszek each. Each also gave up a homer as well.
Akron RubberDucks 7, Chesapeake Baysox 5
Akron RubberDucks 6 Chesapeake Baysox 1
Game 1 Box Score · Game 2 Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 23-12
The Ducks enjoyed a clean doubleheader sweep of the Baysox Wednesday without much drama.
In game 1, the offense was Jorge Burgos and Dayan Frias. Those were the only two to record hits in the 7 inning opener of the doubleheader, driving in 6 of the Ducks’ 7 runs. Frias went yard in the first game as well.

In the second game, contributions were much more spread out. Jake Fox hit a solo bomb, and Burgos built off of his stellar first game and logged another 2 hits, one being a 2-run bomb in the 1st to score Travis Bazzana.

Speaking of Bazz, there is a bit of injury concern with him, as although he doubled in the 4th, he had to come out immediately after it, with what is said to be an abdomen injury. Let’s hope it isn’t serious and pray for him to be day-to-day, because there is little known about it right now.
On the mound, Rodney Boone started off the first game and gave up 5 earned in 5 innings of work. Rough day for him, as he gave up 2 bombs and could not keep the bases empty until he threw his final inning. But no need to fear, the RubberDucks offense, or more accurately Jorge Burgos and Dayan Frias, picked Rod up and won the game.
As for game 2, it was more of a distributed load amongst the RubberDucks staff Wednesday. Rorik Maltrud, Davis Sharpe and Shawn Rapp pitched a strong 5 scoreless innings, while Carter Spivey finished it off, giving up the only Baysox run of the nightcap.

In game 1, the Cats were able to get some traffic on the basepaths. They stole 4 bases, 2 of them belonging to Tommy Hawke to up his total to 37, leading all of Minor League Baseball. One of those stolen bases was a steal of home, but that was thanks to a designed double steal that also got Welbyn Francisca to 2nd base.
But wait, there’s more.
Hawke ended up stealing another 2 bags in game 2, upping his total to 39! Hawke is 7 stolen bases ahead of second place in the minors, 16 in front of 3rd place. Crazy.
The best pitching performance in game 1 was from Austin Aldeano, who threw 2 innings without allowing a baserunner and K’ing 4 batters. In game 2, Melkis Hernandez threw 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and 4 hits, fanning 5 in the process.
ACL Guardians 3, ACL Royals 5
Box Score · ACL Guardians fall to 3-6
Chase DeLauter played his fourth rehab game, and he hasn’t seemed to lose a beat, at least so far. He slugged a homer, his first on the season. Juneiker Caceras is also off to a hot start in the ACL, going 1-4 and driving in a run.
Erigaldi Perez threw 3 and 2⁄3 for the ACL Guards Wednesday, allowing 3 earned on 7 hits and a walk. Tyler Naquin also logged his third appearance in the minors as a pitcher, going 1 and 1⁄3 innings and giving up a run. And he balked, again. I guess such is the way of things for former position players-turned pitchers.
