Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Thursday, June 26, 2025
Columbus Clippers 8, Iowa cubs 7
Box Score · Clippers improve to 36-38
Well, C.J. Kayfus and Chase DeLauter are screaming “call us up” right about now. Kayfus, a day after hitting a mammoth grand slam off a lefty…. hit another mammoth grand slam off a lefty.
This is not a replay

As for DeLauter, he singled twice, one of those times to drive in the winning run (after Kayfus tied it in the 8th with his slam). At this point, they’re harmonizing in their pleas to make it to the bigs.
saw that DeLauter went 2-4 yesterday with a pair of singles. This was one of them. 108 off the bat lol pic.twitter.com/1x5h3Uixav

Juan Brito also returned to Columbus with a wonderful 3-hit day, including his first triple of the season. This is a good start to his return from an untimely injury back in April.
Austin Peterson on the mound did not do great. He gave up a lot of runs due to allowing a lot of traffic on the basepaths and conceding a pair of solo bombs. His final line on the day was 3 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 4 K.
Luckily, the scoring stopped there for the most part. Ryan Webb gave up a run in 3 and a third, everyone including him besides that run locked down the Cubs offense the rest of the way.
Akron RubberDucks 8, Harrisburg Senators 1
Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 44-26
Jorge Burgos had himself a heck of a game Wednesday. Nearly hitting for the cycle, he ended the day with a homer, two doubles and a single, and 2 RBI. Angel Genao also ended up having a pretty good day as well, going 2-3 with 2 walks and his first triple in AA.

On the other side of things, Rodney Boone tossed a gem. In 6 innings of work, he didn’t allow a run and only let up 1 walk. He struck out 4 and gave up 5 hits total. As a result, his ERA is now lowered to 1.98 on the season.
Zane Morehouse, Jack Leftwich and Jake Miller kept things mostly quiet as well the rest of the way. Miller was the only one who gave up a Senator run, and Morehouse was especially good as well. He threw an inning with 2 Ks and only 1 hit without allowing any walks.
Lake County Captains 6, West Michigan Whitecaps 9
Box Score · Captains fall to 37-34
The bottom of the Captains lineup did pretty well in their loss yesterday. They drove in 4 of the team’s 6 runs and went a combined 5-13. Jose Devers also had a 3-5 day with a triple and 3 runs. Furthermore, Wuilfredo Antunez hit his 10th bomb in the 7th.

Unfortunately, 6 runs weren’t enough to beat the Whitecaps. Josh Hartle and Jack Jasiak struggled mightily, giving up 8 earned runs in 4.1 total innings. Jasiak had a very hard time trying to keep the tie game where it was in the 9th, with the Whitecaps rallying in the end.
Lynchburg Hillcats 0, Charleston RiverDogs 7 (F/8)
Box Score · Hillcats fall to 44-27
Well, there’s not much to cover on the offensive side of things. The Hillcats got only 1 hit and took 1 walk as the RiverDog staff was able to shut them down in this game shortened by rain.
Only 1 run was needed to ensure the RiverDogs a win Wednesday, but they ended up scoring 7 against Jacob Zibin and Donovan Zsak. Sean Matson, however, tossed 4.2 innings, fanning 7 batters and only giving up 2 walks.
ACL Guardians 8, ACL Royals 4
Box Score · ACL Guardians improve to 21-19
Like the Captains, the bottom 4 of the lineup for the ACL Guards provided most of the firepower Wednesday. Going a combined 7-16 and driving in 4 ribbies, they created a lot of chances for the top of the lineup to keep the ball rolling.
Joey Oakie tossed 3 innings of ball, giving up 4 ER on 6 hits and a walk. He gave up a 2-run bomb, but still ended up striking out 4 batters.
The rest of the ACL Guardians’ staff kept things quiet the rest of the way. One person to highlight, Tyler Naquin earned himself the dub after going 2 no-hit innings, giving up 2 walks and K’ing 2.
