
Minor League Recap for Friday, May 30th, 2025.
Columbus Clippers (22-30) – AAA
COL 9 – ROC 10
The Columbus Clippers fell in the bottom of the ninth to the Rochester Red Wings after Franco Aleman gave up 3 runs, earning his first loss of the season. Petey Halpin went 3-for-5 with 3 runs. C.J. Kayfus was originally not in the line up and went 0-for-2 after pinch hitting for first baseman Kyle Datres. Chase DeLauter want 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Johnathan Rodríguez went 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a walk. Halpin, DeLauter, Kayfus, and Rodríguez are all potential fill ins for Lane Thomas, who has officially been moved back to the 10-day IL. With all four playing, it will be interesting to see if either gets the call up. David Fry continued his rehab assignment, going 1-for-4 with a homer, 3 RBI, and 1 walk.

Doug Nikhazy had another high run start. He only worked 3.0 innings, allowing six runs (all earned). Nikhazy walked four, allowed six hits, and struck out five.
Akron RubberDucks (33-19) – AA
AKR 8 – SOM 7
The RubberDucks improved to 33-19 in there victory over the Somerset Patriots. RHP Davis Sharpe earned his third win with the ducks, coming on in relief after stater Austin Peterson only went 3.1 innings. Sharpe held the Patriots to 1 run on two hits and struck out 4 in 2.2 innings of work. Magnus Ellerts got his third save of the season, pitching the final frame.
Dayan Frias went 2-for-4 on the night with 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Kahlil Watson went 2-for-5 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Joe Lamp went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a walk. Guy Lipscomp went 1-for-5 with a 2 RBI.
Lake County Captains (25-24) – High A
LC 5 – CR 6
The Captains fell to the Cedar Rapid Kernels off a bad start by Jackson Humphries who falls to 0-6 on the season. Humphries pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 7. Lake County hitters fought to stay in the game, but could never take over the lead. Alfonsin Rosario went 2-for-5 with a run. Ralphy Velazquez went 2-for-4 with a walk. Jose Devers went 2-for-5 with 1 run and 2 RBI.
Lynchburg Hillcats (29-20) – Low A
FBG 7 – LYN 8
The Hillcats bested the Fredericksburg Nationals, outscoring the Nationals by one run, but recording half the hits. Donovan Zsak got the win for the Hillcats, keeping the Nationals to one run, allowing the Hillcats to walk it off. Jeffery Mercedes went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run. Ryan Cesarini went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run.
The 9th inning excitement started with a lead off double from Robert Lopez. Christopher Espinola singled to put runners on the corners and Garrett Howe was hit by pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed all runners to advance, closing the gap to two runs with one out. Jeffrey Mercedes hit a two-run double to tie the game and was lifted for pinch runner Tommy Hawke. The Nationals intentionally walked Ryan Minckler to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Ryan Cesarini hit a walk off single to left to score the speedy Tommy Hawke.
