morning news and notes for may 14
There wasn’t a ton of bad news for the Guardians yesterday, but that’s where we must begin (there’s already an article on the game we won). Ben Lively was placed on the IL with what is being called a right flexor tendon strain.
When looking for more information about this, I came across this, showing Lively with the same injury on 6/23/2022. He returned on August 30th.
So that sucks.
But game 2 of the series vs Milwaukee did not suck. The offense kinda did, but when you give up 0 runs, that doesn’t matter. The Brewers have now gone 19 innings without scoring a run.
Logan The Allen might be enjoying something of a breakout. Although MIL has a terrible offense, he allowed 0 runs in 6 innings, whiffing 6. Matt Festa followed, and threw a couple meatballs, but none of them were hit—another 0.
What the Brewer s should not be ashamed of is the 0 they scored off Emmanuel Clase. Clase looked like his 2025 CY Contender self in this one.
Around baseball
- Fred Manrob unbanned a bunch of corrupt ex-ballplayers because corruption is en vogue in May of 2025.
- Fernando Tatis hit a walkoff home run.
- The Tigers won in 11, but the Royals lost in Houston.
- Fangraphs is confused by Nolan Jones. He might be regressing, though.
