6/4 N&N. Did I do it? Did I avoid the autoplaying video that I’ve grown insanely tired of?
Tanner Bibee carried a no-hitter in to the 5th inning last night, and that’s when happy things stopped happening. This was a shame, because “no-hitter” is basically the bar Guardian SPs have to reach to win now that their offense is “Jose, Carlos, Steven, and 6 guys who might draw a walk that you fist pump.”
After a Goldschmidt groundout to start said inning, Bibee struck out Jazz Chisholm. The umpire, however, did what umpires do when the Yankees play and said “ball 2.” Chisholm then hit a fly ball to left. It should have been caught, but was not. He wound up scoring and a 1-0 loss looked likely.
But no, this game had to get even dumber. In the 6th, the Guardians hit a foul ball to a fan in right field. Aaron Judge was nearby, and tall, so he got in the way of this fan’s ball. Neither man caught it and the umpires said “strike.” Aaron Boone walked out there and was like “hey, we’re the yankees, we don’t get strikes called against us.” So the umpires said ok, we’ll call a guy in your city and ask him what he thinks. Then they reported back with “oh, hey, that ball Judge did not catch is the 3rd out and the Guardians must now pitch instead.”
Jose Ramirez combined with World-Series-level defense from NY let the 1-0 lead turn into a 1-1 tie.
Tanner Bibee then did a poor job of that pitching thing. Then Stephen Vogt decided to let him continue doing a poor job. 3-1 Yankees.
It would end 3-2, via stuff that is not really relevant. Whatever…
Shane Bieber pitches Friday.
Now join me in getting things done prior to 7:05 when we all rush to our screens to watch more umpiring.
