ARLINGTON, Texas, May 12 — On Thursday night, the Texas Rangers won their series finale against the Royals by a final score of 3-1. The Kansas City Royals now head to the Mile High City to start a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies starting on Friday. The Rangers, meanwhile, will start a three-game set of their own on Friday against the Boston Red Sox.

Miller Time for Rangers Against Royals

Rangers’ third baseman Brad Miller was the hero in this one for Texas. He scored the first run of the ballgame. It happened in the bottom of the first inning. Kole Calhoun singled of Royals’ start Jonathan Heasley. Miller was able to score on the play. It also allowed Corey Seager to advance to third base.

The small lead would hold all the way into the seventh inning for the Rangers. Miller stepped up to the plate again. Upon doing this, he promptly belted his fifth home run of the year. The home run marks the second blast for Miller in as many days. He hit a pinch-hit home run in Thursday night’s game. Miller had a good night. He also singled earlier in the game. He walked in the second inning as well.

Rangers’ outfielder Adolis Garcia was responsible for their third run of the night. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a triple to right field. Then Nick Solak stepped up to the plate. Solak would ground into a force out, but not before Royals’ pitcher Josh Staumont threw a wild pitch to him. This would allow Garcia to trot home. It really got the crowd going.

One for the Royals

The Royals lone run in the Lone Star State that evening, came in the top of the eighth inning. Whit Merrifield scored on a single to right field hit by catcher Salvador Perez. Andrew Benintendi advanced to second base on the play. Other than Merrifield scoring, the Royals just didn’t show up on Thursday night.

Rangers Pitching Notes

Taylor Hearn got the start for Texas on Thursday. He pitched five innings. Hearn surrendered no runs, and walked three. He also struck out five, and earned his second win this year. His record is now 2–2 on the year. He has an earned run average of 5.26. Lefty Brock Burke took over for Hearn in the sixth inning. Burke pitched two innings, and walked one. He also struck out one batter. Burke’s performance on the mound got him his first hold of the year.

John King replaced Burke in the eighth inning. He only pitched two thirds of that inning. He gave up the Royals’ only run on three hits. King also struck out one. Matt Bush got the last out in the eighth via a strikeout. Joe Barlow pitched the ninth inning for the Rangers. He gave up one hit, and one walk. He got his sixth save of the season.

Jonathan Heasley took the losing decision for the Royals. He pitched 3 1/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on four hits. Heasley also walked four, and struck out one. His record for 2022 is now 0–1 with an earned run average of 2.70.
