The weather is warming up and so are the bats.
As we begin to enter the heat of the MLB season, the Guardians bats have started to heat up at the most needed moments. There’s still work to be done, but good things are happening in Cleveland.
Big Series Win
The big, bad New York Yankees made an appearance in Cleveland for a three-game series, and the Guardians quickly took care of business. Both teams entered the series fighting for first place in the American League, and Cleveland came out on top. They took a 2-1 series victory when they needed it most, heading into a three-series homestand. While Cleveland did not end up outscoring New York in the series, those two wins did all of the talking. The Guards weren’t able to continue these winning ways into the weekend series against Boston, they’re sitting at a comfortable 15-12 heading into May.
Kwan Fire
As of Sunday, Steven Kwan is staying hot with a ten-game hitting streak. He’s currently hitting .346/.361/.402 with 37 hits and 15 RBI. While he seems to start the season hot every year and then cool off after the All-Star break, there’s no doubt that his efforts are a leading factor in the Guardians’ early success this year. Hoepfully, his bat will continue to heat up with the weather. With heavy-hitters like José Ramírez behind him, the top of the lineup is almost lethal to anyone who comes against them.
The Week of the Debut
The Guardians’ transaction log was quite full the week as three players made their Major League debut with the club. Infielder Will Wilson, RHP Zak Kent, and LHP Doug Nikhazy each made their first appearances in this week’s series against New York and Boston. Wilson is hitting .222 after nine at bats, Kent has four strikeouts across just three innings, and Nikhazy – while his outing was much rougher – can claim three strikeouts in three innings. While it’s still early, here’s hoping these three can become big contributors this season.
