We all need something to smile about this week. Luckily, this sad little team can still provide that.
It may seem like there’s no hope for this team, no life to them, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything for us fans to smile about.
Two to Futures Game
As the All-Star break approaches, announcements are beginning to be made about who we’re going to see in Atlanta in two weeks. The first of these announcements came on Monday when the American League and National League Futures Game participants were announced. Cleveland fans will be seeing two familiar faces in this year’s game, pitcher Parker Messick and infielder CJ Kayfus. Messick is currently 4-3 with a 3.71 ERA for the Columbus Clippers across 15 games. He has the opportunity to start one or two more games before the break. Kayfus started the season with the Akron Rubberducks, but was called up to the Columbus Clippers on April 28th. In Columbus, he’s hitting .303/.391/.568 across 50 games. Ramírez Climbs the Leaderboard Again
Third baseman José Ramírez once again added his name to the Cleveland history books on Wednesday when he moved into fourth place on the franchise’s leaderboard for number of games played. With the first swing of the bat in Wednesday’s game, he played in his 1,527th game. He sits behind just three other players – Lou Boudreau, Nap Lajoie, and Terry Turner. Turner, who played 1,626 games for Cleveland, has just 99 games before Ramírez takes his crown.
DeLauter Staying Hot
Over 26 games with the Columbus Clippers this year, outfield prospect Chase DeLauter has kept his bat hot, currently hitting .305/.417/.505. This has led to an overwhelming chorus of fans clamoring for him to be called up to the big leagues. While there’s no telling exactly when that will be, many are hoping the call will come shortly after the All-Star break. If he can stay healthy, he will continue to be an asset to the Triple-A team, and can eventually get the chance to prove himself in Cleveland.
