Tate Martell Reacts To Death Of Former Teammate Dwayne Haskins

Fellow former Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell paid tribute to Dwayne Haskins, who died Saturday morning after being struck by a dump truck in South Florida.

Martell spent two years with Haskins on the Buckeyes, providing him a close-up view as Haskins became a Heisman Trophy finalist by tossing 50 passing touchdowns in 2018.

Martell mourned his fallen teammate and friend, who passed away at age 24.

“Lost for words…” Martell wrote Saturday on Twitter. “Love you brother.”

Past and present members of the Ohio State football program have grieved over Haskins throughout the weekend. Martell also retweeted tributes from wide receiver Terry McLaurin, former head coach Urban Meyer, and current coach Ryan Day.

Upon winning the starting job over Martell as a sophomore, Haskins led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and Rose Bowl victory over Washington. He was drafted by Washington’s NFL franchise in 2015 and made 16 career starts before tragically losing his life.

Haskins clearly made a lasting mark on those who knew him. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and teammates.
